There’s trivia this weekend! Friday night, the Capital Elite All Stars are hosting an event at the Sherman Athletic Club.

Doors open at 6 p.m., games start at 7 p.m. Bring snacks for you table, and decorate your table as well! Prizes for the best decorated table. Cash bar, hot dogs and nachos for sale. Walk-ins welcome. Contact Marsha at 494-4349 or msmarvel19@comcast.net for more information and to sign up.

WQLZ’s Dumber than Zane Trivia Night
Hosted by the Free Beer and Hot Wings Morning Show
to benefit Bodine.

Bodine has been with WQLZ for 14 years. His three year old son, Joshua, suffers from Fanconi Anemia, a rare genetic disease. After several bone marrow transplants (and a few scares) he is out of the woods for now, but has a long way to go. Bodine has a long road ahead too. Joshua is only one of his eight kids, and in the last year Bodine has missed over 6 months of work to be with his son and wife at the hospital in Cincinnati during this process. Between being with Joshua and caring for his other children without his wife, he works on completely renovating his house to a “clean house” with a new air system, floors, windows, the works.

This has to happen to bring Joshua home, he even had to adopt out his pets. Help from the Ronald McDonald house and various state aid programs have made a huge difference to Bodine and his family, but don’t come near to covering all the expenses involved. Bodine has been the guy who always does the fundraisers, who raises thousands of dollars for Toys for Tots and Habitat for Humanity.

Now we are going to help him. Joshua is on oxygen and confined to a wheelchair and Bodine needs a wheelchair accessible vehicle in order to transport Joshua around town and to and from Cincinnati for monthly checkups. We are going to raise the money to buy that for him.

Trivia for the 4th weekend of April

Both KofC halls will be busy with trivia this weekend. First, the west side KC hosts a joint fundraiser for The Government Bar Association, the Sangamon County Bar Association, and the Central Illinois Women’s Bar Association on Friday night. There will be mulligans at this event.
On Saturday, a trivia night to support the ICARE Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is being held at the north end KC on West St. (how’s that for confusing?). No mulligans here.
Also on Saturday, for trivia fans northwest of town, there will be a trivia night to benefit the Redbird Youth Football team in Virgina. They will also be selling mulligans.

Trivia for the 3rd week of April

3 events this weekend, all on Saturday, starting with an early one at the Cathedral (524 East Lawrence). It starts at 5:30, so if you sign up for this one make sure you note that and don’t miss half of it by showing up at 7:00. *

There’s also a “Student Ambassador” trivia night at Knight’s Action Park to raise money for Alicia Van Meter, who will be traveling to the UK this summer. Normal start time on that one. *

The 3rd event will be at Rochester United Methodist Church and will help the Reynolds family bring home Shaling, an orphan from China.

Of the three events on the calendar for this weekend, only the one in Carlinville is mulligan-free. So you purists might have to head south if you want to get some trivia in this week. If you’re ok with mulligans, you’ve got 2 events to choose from on Saturday – the Honorary Student Communication Society Trivia Night at UIS, and the Veterans Memorial Association event at Gardner Township Hall. Have fun!

It’s Easter weekend, so there’s not much of anything going on. In fact, there’s only one trivia night Saturday…but it will be a good one. This is a SpringfieldTrivia.com event, so it will be heavy on the pop culture – and obviously, no Mulligans. If you want to get in some studying before Saturday, here are some hints to get you started:

Lots of trivia this weekend. Friday night, there’s the LLCC Madrigals Trivia Night at the LLCC Student Union and the Sertoma Club event at the KC Hall on Meadowbrook. Both of these events are using Mulligans. Also, Marine Bank employees can participate in their own private SpringfieldTrivia.com event Friday night at Break Time.

Saturday, you’ve got the Riverton Village Library Trivia Night at the Riverton KC Hall, the Nokomis Quarterback Club Trivia Night in the NHS cafeteria, Rushville Public Library Trivia Night in the Rushville-Industry gym, and the St. Patrick’s School Trivia Night at the Route 66 Hotel, which is also a SpringfieldTrivia.com event. Of these, only the Nokomis event will be using Mulligans.

Trivia for the 1st week of March

This Friday night, The Springfield Zoological Society is putting on a 70′s themed trivia night at the Nelson Center to raise money for Henson Robinson Zoo. Note: Start time is 6:30. Also on Friday, there’s a trivia night at St. Joseph’s Church in Chatham benefiting their youth group. Both of these events are Mulligan-free.

On Saturday, there are events at Douglas Ave. UMC*, and at the Northfield Center. Also, anyone who might be up for a drive can make their way down to Neoga for their first shot at trivia.

*Anybody playing the Douglas Ave. trivia night who needs to fill a seat at their table, let me know.

Trivia for the last weekend of February

It looks like there’s only one trivia night in Springfield this weekend and that’s at the Firefighters’ Lake Club Saturday night, benefiting the Phoenix Center. Always excellent trivia organizer, Allen Reyne is writing the questions and running the show. I’m playing this one with a team that’s never played together before, so it should be interesting.

The other event on our calendar is over in Quincy in support of the Alzheimer’s Association. So if you live west of here, or you’re up for a drive, that’s your spot.
